I am an award-winning photographer, and my work has been featured in galleries around the San Francisco Bay Area since 1999.   I've always loved action and the outdoors, whether sports or wildlife, and a lot of my photography has reflected my love of these activities.  The joy of these activities was often merged with the desire to create art, as in capturing moments in time, and also creating moments in time.    I love capturing moods and people as well though, so you see that in my "Life" work as well as my fashion work.   Since my beginnings with wildlife photography I've branched out, and am published in books and magazines, and have sold my work to hundreds of clients.   Selling is flattering, a type of validation, but what's really nice is having clients truly love the images and asking for more.

Last year I began an exploration into a new realm of artwork, which you can see displayed with Art People now. The basis of each piece is one of my original photographs, with the creative process continuing long after the image is first captured on the way to each final work. I can hardly describe how much I love creating each of these pieces. I'm mixing old subjects and new, and giving them a completely different treatment than I've done in the past.  I feel as if I'm combining painting with photography, and from a creative perspective I'm getting the real experience of being there in the moment while at the same time creating something from scratch. I use colors and textures to bring different senses of power and emotion, and when I've done it right, I've also captured an action, a pose, or a figure that has power of its own.  Putting them together is just great fun. And seeing that others love this work and hang pieces in their home is just as much fun.

Life is my description for all things personal.   Whether it's friends, lovers, kids or family pets, it all fits into the category of life.    If I can get the essence of a mood or moment, I feel as if I've done something good, and I can be happy doing this all day long, all week long...I've included sports photography into this category.   From a technical perspective the photography is often quite different, but don't you think that sports are just another part of life?

Fashion is a new thing for me.   It's combining a bit of what I like in my LIFE work with play-acting, and feels a bit more like creating a result than capturing one.   Rarely of course are things so black and white as this, and there is always an element of creating in the capturing, even with wildlife photography.   But this fashion work carries the topic of creating farther, at least it usually does.

My first commercial successes came here.   I love to observe animals interacting, and I love capturing moments with my camera, and the two came together here before I took photography anywhere else.   I still enjoy studying a house finch, how it moves and what it does, and I love it whether I'm shooting or not.   Often I simply can't resist getting another image, though.   I try to catch my subjects doing something unique or personal to them, to their species or the particular animal.   When I do, I feel connected to the moment long after it's passed, and I hope that I'm letting you have a view as if you were there with me, so you can imagine the whole scene and "get into" the life of my subject.
